Avon Senses Reflection Shower Gel Review

Hello everyone!

I’d like to review for you one of my latest purchases from Avon. This is a shower gel from their Senses range. I bought the Reflection shower gel because it’s supposed to be ‘peaceful and soothing’ and I hoped it’ll help me with my temper! 😛

Price:

Rs 199. Currently available on discount at Rs 139

My Take:

First and foremost, I like the shape of the bottle! Isn’t it great, there’s a ‘hook’ on it so you can actually hang it on your shower! (It’s a plastic bottle so if it falls off your shower, it won’t break :P)

Though it looks like a purple coloured gel, it is clear. It spreads and lathers quite easily.

I do think that the overall effect of this shower gel is relaxing and refreshing. After using this, my skin feels smooth and clean. There is no excessive dryness which is great because I have dry skin. I like how the shower gel rinses off easily. I remember trying a shower gel from Palmolive and it took forever to rinse off! After 15 minutes of trying my skin still felt soapy! How irritating is that?! So I am glad this washes off quickly.

My main problem with this is the fragrance. When I see purple and I think of a fragrance my mind instantly jumps to lavender. And yes this shower gel does have lavender notes in its fragrance. There’s another note in the fragrance that I can’t identify. That must be the water lily. So far, so good. But the overall fragrance is quite mild, which I guess is the whole point of it being a ‘peaceful and soothing’ shower gel but I wish it was a bit stronger! Also, the fragrance reminds me  a bit of medicine… I don’t know why! 🙁

And what’s more, it doesn’t really linger. That’s not surprising since it is so gentle to begin with, but still I would have liked to smell like lavender!

What I like?:

  • Reasonable price
  • Lathers easily
  • Does not take much effort of rinse off
  • Does not dry out skin as much as soaps
  • Soothing fragrance
  • Cute packaging

What I don’t like?

  • Fragrance doesn’t linger at all, it’s gone pretty much as soon as you step out of the bathroom
  • The fragrance is a bit dull

Rating: 2.5/5

Final word:

Though this shower gel doesn’t have any cons as such, I just didn’t find anything in it that made me go ‘wow, this is great, I’m so glad I bought it!’. The fragrance is absolutely run of the mill, it doesn’t linger and my temper is still as bad (haha!). Yes, okay, the fragrance is soothing to an extent; but it could have been SO much better.

Do I Recommend?:

No.

Would I Repurchase?:

Nope, just not a fan of the fragrance. I now wish I had picked the other variant, maybe the fragrance would have been stronger and more refreshing! 🙁

Avon Naturals Strawberry Lip Balm Review and Swatches

Hi girls!

One of the lip balms I promised to review in my Best Budget Pink Lip Balms and Lip Glosses article was this strawberry lip balm from Avon. This also happens to be my HG lip balm. Read on to know why 🙂

Price and Quantity:

Rs 99 for 4 g. When there’s a discount offer going on you can also get it for as low as Rs 70.

My Take:

Like I said, this lip balm has been my HG lip balm – for over 6 years now! I have been using it since it came in that tub form! The packaging changed to this convenient twist up form a couple of years back. (If you use a product long enough to see it go through a complete makeover, I think you’ve used it for QUITE a while!)

You’ll need a bit of a flashback to know why I love this lip balm so much. You see, I have always had very dry lips that just point blank REFUSE to get hydrated. Even Vaseline, yes Vaseline doesn’t work on my lips. You can imagine what a nightmare it was for me to look for a lip balm that provided even a little bit of hydration to my chapped lips. That’s when I found this lip balm. Till date this is the only lip balm that actually moisturizes my lips. No other lip balm has even come close to how well this Avon lip balm works for me.

It gives a very subtle wash of reddish pink color to my lips. The lip balm has no shimmer. The colour payoff is actually quite mediocre on my pigmented lips, but I’m sure you understand by now that I’m more than willing to let that go! (The swatches and LOTD show like 5-6 swipes of the lip balm!)

Of course, I wish that this lip balm gave more colour to my lips, like the Nivea Fruity Shine Lip balm or the Maybelline Color Bloom Color Changing lip balm (the colour payoff of that is just TOO good to be true, and yet it is true!). Another small issue I have with this lip balm is that it fades without leaving any colour, and about an hour or so after it fades, my lips start to feel dry again so I have to reapply.

Why I like?:

  • Very reasonably priced
  • Keeps lip soft and moisturized
  • Not at all sticky or waxy
  • Gives a soft pink tint to the lips
  • Does not feel heavy on the lips
  • Pleasant fragrance
  • Tastes good too!

Why I don’t like?:

  • Colour payoff could have been better
  • Needs to be reapplied to keep the lips hydrated
  • Fades without leaving any tint whatsoever

Rating: 4.5/5

Final word:

As far as lip balms go this is quite reasonably priced and it delivers in terms of hydration. Plus it is tinted and smells incredible! Although I have branched out in the world of lip balms and I now own about 10 different ones, for me this lip balm is irreplaceable 🙂

Will I repurchase?:

I think this is around my 30th strawberry lip balm from this range! I buy these like 2-4 at a time because Avon has discounts often and so I stock up on these lip balms every few months. There are two brand new ones lying in my drawer as I write this!

Do I recommend?:

If you’re like me and NOTHING works on your lips, then yes I would suggest that you try this out 🙂 for others, just have fun with the different variants, there is nothing bad about these lip balms – they are definitely worth a try.

Avon Simply Pretty Plum Perfect Lipstick Review and Swatches

All of us love wearing lipsticks. Different shades for different moods right! 🙂 I myself am very fond of Lakme, Elle 18 and Avon ranges. All of them offer lots of shades at pretty reasonable prices. So, mostly when I plan on buying one lip colour, I end buying 3 or 4 at a time.

The lipstick I am going to review today is Avon Simply pretty: Perfect Plum shade. I got this more than a year back. Now, this range is available in a different packing, I guess. Read on, to know more about this lipstick and have a look at the swatches.

avon lipstick, plum perfect

Price and Quantity:

I got these through some scheme for 99 bucks 😀 Later on there was a hike and it became INR 139.

For the exact price, you have got to check the monthly manual of Avon, since there are a lot of different schemes and discounts available, quite regularly with Avon. Quantity happens to be 4 grams.

My Take:

This lipstick comes in a very regular black, plastic twisty tube. I found this packing very boring. I guess, the packing has been changed now to a more vibrant shade. Never the less, the cap fits in quite well and the product is quite travel friendly 🙂

It is a deep mauve plum shade. The colour pay off is good. You can check out the swatches. I have lured my sister to pose for a lip swatch, in exchange of a Dairy milk 🙂 She is such a sweetheart! Mauve suits, every skin tone, more or less.

The lipstick stays for a quite reasonable time for me.  It would easily stay on you for 3 hours and then you would need a touch up. It transfers a bit on cups etc but not in a scary way.

As far as, moisturizing the lips is concerned, it is not very good in that (It would not dry your lips, either). So, apply a little amount of vaseline before you put on the lip colour. On the positive side, it glides on smoothly. It has a semi matte finish to it.

Swatches:

Why I like this Lipstick?:

  • Pigmented shade.
  • Semi matte finish
  • Reasonable staying power
  • Pocket friendly
  • Travel friendly
  • Does not bleed

Why I don’t like this Lipstick?:

  • Does not moisturize lips much.
  • Available through agents only

Final Verdict:

I am quite satisfied with this lipstick and would look out for trying some more shades soon.

Rating: 4/5

Do I Recommend?:

Yups, it is a budget buy with decent performance.

Would I Repurchase?:

Yes, I would love to. Sadly, I have no Avon agent in touch currently. Earlier, a neighborhood lady used to do it, now, she has discontinued 🙁
