How to Make Mattifying Day Cream at Home? [Photo Tutorial]

Hello Everyone!
This is going to be a fun tutorial today. I made this DIY day cream when I was sorting out the products in my skincare case. I had some products those I don’t use regularly on my normal-oily skin but did not want to throw them either. If I keep them without using, they will hit the expiry date.
When I was deeply thinking to recycle and experiment with those products, I suddenly got an idea of preparing a mattifying day cream out of them. For the mattifying effect, I needed some loose powder and the other things I needed are some a moisturizer and SPF cream and such to prepare this DIY recipe. This day cream of course doesn’t stay all day long on your face but you can use this for nearby shopping visits and quick outings! When I don’t feel like layering up my face with a moisturizer, then a SPF and then a compact, I simply put on this cream and get set! And that’s it I am ready to go! Check below to find how the recipe turned out.

Things you will need:

  • Some loose powder or a compact (That matches your skin tone)
  • A moisturizer
  • A sunscreen lotion
  • A soothing skin gel (Optional)
  • An empty container (I used the Lakme Perfect Radiance Fairness Cream tub)
  • A clean spoon or a spatula

Here I have used the Lakme Rose Powder in Warm Pink shade. You can either use some loose powder or a compact for this DIY day cream. Just scrape some compact to use it in your recipe. Both the Garnier Light Moisturizer and the Maybelline BB Cream (In shade radiance; and oops it’s a wrong shade for my skin!) gave a whitish caste finish on my skin and hence I wanted to finish them off 😛 by mixing and matching them in my DIY recipes. They both had good SPF factor and that is enough for short visits and nearby shopping step outs right? So I used them both as moisturizer come sunscreen in this recipe. You can also use a separate moisturizer and sunscreen to make this mattifying day cream. If you have oily skin and couldn’t use those dewy finish products on your skin, welcome them to this recipe 😀 and you will get that mattifying effect! Come let us move on to the steps now.

Step 1:
Clean your empty container and dry it. You can use your old day cream tub or some other tub that is travel friendly, sturdy and leak proof. I have used one of my favorite tubs here, the one in which the Lakme Perfect Radiance Fairness Day Cream comes. It is cute pink, classy looking metallic tub. After cleaning and drying, put in some loose powder to it. Prepare a small amount first; if it does well then we can prepare more.

Step 2:
Now put in your moisturizer and SPF cream to the tub. I have prepared my DIY day cream with the loose powder, moisturizer and sunscreen in the ratio of 1:2:2. I did not use a separate moisturizer and a sunscreen but combined both the Garnier Light Moisturizer and the Maybelline BB cream for a ‘moisturizer come sunscreen’ effect. If you want to skip the SPF and just want a light day cream, go for moisturizer + powder without adding any tinted creams or SPF. Make sure that you do not include more powder then it will be hard blending the cream onto the skin.

Step 3:
This is an optional step. You can either include or skip this but I included some soothing skin gel to this DIY day cream for ease of application. By adding this gel, the consistency of the cream becomes smooth and moreover, the cream spreads smoothly without settling into patches. I have used the Prakriti Herbals Soothing Rose Aloe Gel here. You can also use any other store bought aloe gel for this purpose.

Step 4:
In this final step, mix everything together well with the spatula without any lumps to make your day cream smooth. Swatch test it on  your hand and on your clean face. If everything is fine, then stick to the same ratio and prepare a tub full of cream for your usage! This can be said as either your day cream or a light coverage foundation for daily usage.

Tada.. Here is the day cream I prepared! It gives a nice glowing matte finish to my facial skin without leaving it dry. The coverage is light and it stays good for 2-3 hours. I do not need to layer my facial skin with moisturizer, SPF and compact hereafter when stepping out for short visits 🙂 Just a blob of this DIY day cream does a perfect job!

Store this DIY Mattifying Day Cream in refrigerator and use a spatula to take out the product every time. This extends the shelf life of the product. If you have dry skin, you can add extra moisturizing creams to this recipe to make sure it suits your skin type.

How to Use Johnson’s Baby Lotion? [4 Different Ways]

Hello Everyone!
If you are wondering whether this post is meant for Johnson’s baby lotion usage on babies, nope you’re wrong. In this post, I am sharing with you all, the multiple uses of Johnson’s baby lotion on skin; of on elders skin. For me, this is such a life saver product and I have been repurchasing this lotion again and again for past 2-3 years. There are two variants I guess, the one is the milk variant and the another one is plain (Which is baby pink in colour) I love both of them but has a little more craze on pink 😛 and its fragrance of course. Come let us check the 4 uses of Johnson’s Baby Lotion on adult’s skin.

Body Lotion
This is how I first used this Johnson’s Baby Lotion on me! Once, when I was in train travel, I realized that I did not carry my body lotion and foot cream with me. That was winter too and I have no other choice than getting some small lotion pack from the nearest store. When I came across few affordable, small body lotions, this one caught my eye. I had also picked a Vaseline 24 hours total moisture cream but that was for my foot as it is heavy and rich 🙂 This small bottle of Johnson’s  baby lotion saved my body skin like anything. I just applied it over my arms, hands and body and this does the moisturizing job very well without leaving any sticky or greasy feel behind. My skin felt smooth, soft and baby soft with the lingering, pleasant baby smell 🙂 There after, I even started using this lotion as my ‘now and then’ body lotion when my skin and senses scream for something pleasant and baby-sh.

Makeup Remover
Yes! It is a superb makeup remover and it effectively removes all the mild, waterproof makeup cosmetics from my skin. Though being mild, it does a very good job without disturbing the skin’s natural moisture. I am not a ‘everyday waterproof makeup’ wearing person. If I am stepping out for a long outing, I would prefer water proof long wear eye and face makeup products but in case if I am getting out for some shopping, to a nearby store, products that come into my hand are light weighted and  those can be easily removed without a makeup remover. For that removing purpose, I use this Johnson’s baby lotion. It removes all the traces of light makeup with the first swipe itself. It effectively removes eyeliner, eye shadows and such. Simple dab some lotion over your face using a soft cotton ball. Leave on for 30 seconds to one minutes and wipe off with a damp cloth! That’s it you are all done.

Day Cream/Light Foundation
Foundation? Are you asking whether I am kidding? Nope. I have tried, tested this and sharing with you all 🙂 It neither caused any side effects nor worked bad on my skin. Once when I was experimenting (I do it a lot people) to make my own day cream, or can be said as a light coverage foundation, I tried making my Lakme Rose Powder as a cream with rose water. I applied it onto my face and oh my god! It stretched out my normal-oily skin so bad and gave a ghost-like white caste finish 😛 Then I tried mixing a pea sized amount of Johnson’s baby lotion with the same rose powder and voila! This DIY day cream blended out smoothly onto my facial skin and gave a light coverage which is perfect for nearby shopping visits. If applied plainly, Johnson’s baby lotion gives a mild dewy look (Which turns my T Zone like an oil well within 2-3 hours) to my facial skin but when I tried mixing it with my loose powder, it gave a smooth matte finish, which is not at all flat or powdery. The finish was even, smooth and the texture of my skin looked so good really. However extra dry skins may not like this idea much but if you have a normal-oily skin type, this would suit you perfectly in monsoons and winters.

Hand & Elbow Cream
Not only as a body lotion, it serves great as my hand cream too. I am using it often as my hand cream, especially at nights before I go to bed. It help my palms stay baby soft and super smelling all the night 🙂 It has even improved the shine on my nails and prevent them getting cracked due to dryness. For dry elbows and knees, this is one mild instant cure. Though it cannot help much in winters, it helps a bit to heal stubborn dryness and roughness on the knee parts. Moreover, you do not need to fear to put this lotion anywhere on your skin as it is specially formulated for babies.

And one more thing to say; something which is safe on baby’s skin is hundred percent safe on yours! So don’t ever hesitate to use baby lotions and other baby products on your skin 🙂 Enjoy the baby-sh fragrance!

How to Make DIY Skin Hydrating Face Pack? [Photo Tutorial]

Guest Post by Gowmi

Hi Sweets,
As per now, I am very obsessed with the weather over South India (Tamil nadu). They call it winter season?? Nope! It’s still summer in here. Due to the random change in the weather conditions, our skin gets not only dry but it losing the hydration completely. I have combinational to normal skin type, so my T- zone areas (due to rapid change in weather) look like cement concrete (dry), elsewhere skin is normal. I wondered, I don’t how I suppose to hydrate my skin? I was tried over search engines by looking over the solution for uprooting skin hydration. Hence, I came across the uses of banana with honey. It was quiet satisfying. Yet need to improvise! So again I browsed and came to know about the wonders of cucumber and sandalwood.
They all work as smoothing agent, for soothing and skin hydration. This is what Is looking for! So I made them as pack and apply as hydration face pack twice a week. Now it’s all hydrated. So, let me introduce my hydration face pack here in this tutorial.

DIY Skin Hydrating Face Pack:

Ingredients you will need:

  • Smashed cucumber (You can smash in mixer and store in air tight container in refrigerator for later use)
  • 1 spoon of honey
  • 1 banana (2-3 pieces will be needed for the entire face)
  • 1 spoonful of sandalwood powder (if you have red sandalwood powder then you can use it instead of sandalwood powder too)

Tip: Women who have acne prone skin can reduce the amount of cucumber and sandalwood powder for this pack. Because, both are highly cooling agents, so they may enhance acne sometimes. Don’t add fuller’s earth to this pack, it may completely alter the pack.

Tip: Use a fork to smash banana with mixture. Don’t use finger as it may get clumsy.

How to Use?:

Clean your face with cleanser and pat dry. Now apply the hydration pack on face, leave 20-15 minutes and wash with luke warm or tap water. Don’t leave pack to over dry on your skin then the washing process goes little bit difficult. For starters it may feel little tingling due to the banana usage in pack. Also don’t add water to the pack. While applying you may feel greasy but you should wait 15 minutes to see some wonders on your skin. After this pack skin feels hydrated and soothing.

Tidbit: Use this pack thrice or twice a week. It removes dullness and excess sebum on surface of skin and leaves hydrated.
