Maybelline Clear Glow All In One Fairness Compact Powder 02 Nude Beige Review, Swatches and Photos

Hello lovelies!

Today I’ll be reviewing the Maybeline Fairness Compact powder. I have this in the shade Nude Beige. This is the first compact, and the only compact, that I have ever bought. So I don’t have a benchmark to compare this to. However I’ll review this on the basis of what it claims it’ll do and whether it actually does those things. So let’s get into the review 🙂

Price and Quantity:

Rs 175 for 9 g

Ingredients:

My Take:

What I really, really love about this compact is the packaging. It is just so adorable and you can tell that a lot of thought has gone into it. It is a lovely light pink rectangular case with rounded edges. It has a plastic sheet inside to avoid any powder flakes going here and there and a decently sized mirror which makes it extremely travel friendly.

A sponge blender is provided with this compact and it also has a compartment to keep the sponge, isn’t that cute 😀 (I’m sorry I just can’t get over how lovely the packaging is!!) The sponge is neither too soft nor too stiff so it’s quite easy to work with. As far as blending goes, I really love this powder. It blends like a dream. The sponge blends the powder quite well into the skin. (Just so you know, the sponge was white to begin with!) You can use your own brush to blend the powder if you so prefer.

I use this with my Maybelline BB Cream (which I have in the shade 01 – Nude) and I think they work beautifully together. I think they are supposed to be used as a combination anyway. The SA told me that if I use the shade ‘Nude’ in the BB cream then I should pick up ‘Nude Beige’ in the compact. I think that the BB cream plus compact combination is great if you don’t require heavy duty coverage. It evens out skin tone without making it look too artificial or cakey. However BB cream under this is not a must.

Instead of using it on the whole face, you can also just dab a bit of this on if you have an oily nose and it absorbs the oil quite well. This is what I do frequently. My nose is an oil factory and this powder is pretty good at dealing with shiny noses like mine 😛

(The blended powder looks a bit ashy on my skin because my hands are darker than my face. On my face it’s perfect. This is also a pointer – the wrong shade of this powder can make your skin look ashy so spend a bit of time and choose the right shade!)

PROS:

  • Beautiful packaging, mirror inside
  • Comes with a sponge applicator
  • Blends well
  • Evens out skin tone
  • Absorbs oil
  • Contains sun protection – SPF 26 and PA+++
  • Very reasonably priced

CONS:

  • Contains parabens
  • Coverage is light to medium, not full

Rating: 4.5/5

Final Word:

For 175 bucks, this compact is a steal. You can wear it on its own as well as over BB cream. It fulfills its claims to quite an extent and it is good for light to medium coverage. It contains SPF so you can wear this daily. I’d recommend this compact to every girl, just be sure to get the shade right 🙂 Hope you all liked the review!

Maybelline Color Sensational Moisture Extreme Dusky Mauve Lipstick Review, Swatches and LOTD

Hello everyone 🙂

Today I am going to be reviewing another lovely lipstick from Maybelline and this is from their Color Sensational Moisture Extreme range. It is called Dusky Mauve. So let’s get into the review!

Price and Quantity:

Rs 220 for 4 g

My Experience:

I’m surprised at the packaging of this lipstick because, as far as my experience goes, this is one department in which Maybelline usually doesn’t go wrong. Everything I’ve used from their BB cream to their Color Sensational lipstick Tinted Taupe to the Clearglow compact powder to the baby Lips lip balm, all have cute and well thought out packaging. For this lipstick however, the packaging is just really dated. I’m disappointed.

Firstly let me apologize for the state of the lipstick bullet. It looks like I’ve attacked it or something but honestly I haven’t done anything to it. The bullet is just SO soft. It can’t withstand anything. Creamy is one thing but melt within 3 months is another! Hopefully I can redeem myself with the swatches and LOTD.

(You can see in the swatches on my hand too that it’s melted slightly there. Sigh. Why is it so creamy?!)

So far I haven’t said anything good about this lipstick so let’s remedy that, shall we?  Dusky Mauve is an absolutely gorgeous color. Contrary to its name (you would think), in the bullet it’s more of a brown lipstick. I was actually disappointed when I opened saw it for the first time – I was like “This is brown! Where’s the mauve?” But on application, it is definitely more of a mauve lipstick with subtle dusty brown undertones.

Dusky Mauve is one of those shades whose final colour on the lips depends very heavily on who’s wearing it. On me it shows up as a deep mauve but on my mom, it shows up as a lighter mauve with pink undertones. Needless to say that both colors are flattering; I think how pigmented your lips are plays a role in how this lipstick will look on you.

Oh the texture. I LOVE IT. I think texture-wise this is one of the best lipsticks I’ve ever used. It’s smooth and rich and buttery and an absolute delight to apply. It has a slight sheen and makes your lips look very hydrated and creamy.

The staying power of this lipstick is poor. It’ll start fading in about 2 hours and if you have a meal with this on, it’ll disappear without a trace. This for me is a huge drawback, especially when a lot of brands have come up with long lasting lipsticks (although for a slightly higher price).

PROS:

  • Amazing colour, will suit most skin tones
  • Very reasonably priced
  • Creamy, gorgeous texture
  • Moisturizing
  • Easily available
  • Doesn’t bleed (which is funny considering how soft  the bullet is!)

CONS:

  • Bullet starts to melt very soon. Needs to be stored in a cool place
  • Boring packaging 😛
  • Staying power is low

Rating: 4/5

Final word:

I should have given this lipstick a slightly lower rating given the cons, but I can’t. I love it too much! This lipstick really is amazing overall for the price. Dusky Mauve is a lovely subtle shade that’ll look great on fair as well as dusky beauties. I highly recommend this lipstick 🙂 (Yes really, despite how negatively the review began!)

Maybelline Clearglow BB Cream Natural Review, Swatches and Photos

I loved the concept of BB Cream/Stick duo to make my skin look more even toned, as I feel that most foundations have a coverage so thick that it’s difficult to use them on myself. So I decided to get both BB stick and cream from Maybelline. After purchase, I started immediately using the BB Stick on the slightly darker parts of my face and the cream all over it. After nearly 5 months of usage, this is what I think about Maybelline BB Cream in shade Natural.

Price and Quantity:

Rs. 199 for 18 ml.

My Take:

The color itself is the darkest of the three shades made available by Maybelline. It is slightly darker than my skin tone. A mild con, but nothing that cannot be handled when you are using it sparsely. I generally cover my pores and sensitive areas with the Maybelline BB Stick and then dab on some BB cream, and blend the two. The result makes my skin look much fine toned and smoother. I use my fingers mostly, but sometimes I also use a brush.

The cream blends in easily. It’s very travel-friendly and I have carried it with me a lot. No issues whatsoever there. It does not hydrate much, so it is prudent to moisturize your face before application. The product also tends to separate if you leave it alone for a while. So it is quite a good idea to check before application. It also provides better coverage than most other BB Creams in the market, and I like that it does not break me out

Before and After:

The BB cream claims to stay on for 8 hours. I have to say, on me it stays for 4-6 hours max, and in the end of the day I find myself looking at a piece of cotton soaked in makeup remover with not much of the BB cream on it. Frankly speaking I don’t mind it, but it might be a con for girls who want a foundation-like finish. However, get this – it is not a foundation, it’s a BB Cream, and it is not really supposed to be a foundation.

PROS:

  • Travel friendly
  • Hides minor imperfection
  • Evens out skin
  • Does not break me out

CONS:

  • Product tends to separate if left alone for a while
  • Does not last 8 hours on me
  • Not hydrating enough

Rating: 3/5

Final Verdict:

Overall, after this package gets over, I don’t think I will be getting another one. I will repurchase the BB Stick though, but not the cream.
