Lotus Herbals Strawberry Lip Balm Review and Swatches

by Adi

Hello ladies! How are you all doing? Today I’ll review a lip balm that somehow can’t find its way into my regularly-used lip balm stash. It is the Lotus Herbals Lip Balm in Strawberry. I saw this lying in my drawer the other day, barely used. I bought this about a year back and I began wondering why I hadn’t like it. Maybe I had misjudged it? So in a way, this review is for you as well as me! Read on to know whether this poor lip balm didn’t get the respect it deserved, or if it was rightfully ignored!

Price and quantity:ย

Rs 125 for 5 g

Variants available:ย

Strawberry, Orange, Raspberry, Fruity Fusion

My Take on the Lotus Herbals Strawberry Lip Balm:

Yes, yes the tub packaging is cute. But I don’t feel like investing in a brush for a lip balm, and I keep my nails slightly long so I invariably find myself in a messy situation when I apply this lip balm ๐Ÿ™ I think it is high time that they changed the packaging of this lip balm; lip pots are slowly becoming obsolete for a reason!

Coming to the texture of the lip balm, it is quite smooth and feels soft on the lips, not heavy or waxy at all. It has a creamy balm like shine to it too. The only problem I have with this is the pigmentation. There is none! It looks delightfully red in the tub but when applied, hardly any colour shows up.

If you have even slightly pigmented lips, you may as well opt for a non-tinted lip balm instead. If you try to layer it to get some colour, that doesn’t work either because then the balm starts to feel a bit heavy. The lip balm stays on my lips for about 3-4 hours. It definitely doesn’t survive a meal.

What I like about this lip balm?

  • Reasonably priced
  • Pleasant fragrance
  • Moisturizing to an extent
  • Does not feel heavy, waxy or sticky on the lips, unless a lot is applied

What I don’t like about this lip balm?

  • Tub packaging is SO inconvenient to use and unhygienic.
  • Colour payoff is practically non-existent. Hello what about us girls with pigmented lips?!
  • Girls with very dry lips won’t find this hydrating enough

MABH Rating: 3/5

Final word:ย

I am sure this is an HG lip balm for many girls out there but the catch is that it has very poor pigmentation and average hydrating power. So if you are blessed with good lips then you could go for this, and it may even become your best friend. But if your lips are very dry or chapped or pigmented, I would say it is safer to steer clear of this one.

Will I repurchase?:ย

Nope, there are tons of strawberry lip balms in the market that are much better than this one for about the same price! This lip balm fares poorly when compared with the Avon Naturals Strawberry lip balm and the Nivea Fruity Shine lip balms. Plus the latter ones come in twist-up packaging!

Avon Naturals Strawberry Lip Balm Review and Swatches

Hi girls!

One of the lip balms I promised to review in my Best Budget Pink Lip Balms and Lip Glosses article was this strawberry lip balm from Avon. This also happens to be my HG lip balm. Read on to know why ๐Ÿ™‚

Price and Quantity:ย

Rs 99 for 4 g. When thereโ€™s a discount offer going on you can also get it for as low as Rs 70.

My Take:

Like I said, this lip balm has been my HG lip balm โ€“ for over 6 years now! I have been using it since it came in that tub form! The packaging changed to this convenient twist up form a couple of years back. (If you use a product long enough to see it go through a complete makeover, I think you’ve used it for QUITE a while!)

You’ll need a bit of a flashback to know why I love this lip balm so much. You see, I have always had very dry lips that just point blank REFUSE to get hydrated. Even Vaseline, yes Vaseline doesn’t work on my lips. You can imagine what a nightmare it was for me to look for a lip balm that provided even a little bit of hydration to my chapped lips. That’s when I found this lip balm. Till date this is the only lip balm that actually moisturizes my lips. No other lip balm has even come close to how well this Avon lip balm works for me.

It gives a very subtle wash of reddish pink color to my lips. The lip balm has no shimmer. The colour payoff is actually quite mediocre on my pigmented lips, but I’m sure you understand by now that I’m more than willing to let that go! (The swatches and LOTD show like 5-6 swipes of the lip balm!)

Of course, I wish that this lip balm gave more colour to my lips, like the Nivea Fruity Shine Lip balm or the Maybelline Color Bloom Color Changing lip balm (the colour payoff of that is just TOO good to be true, and yet it is true!). Another small issue I have with this lip balm is that it fades without leaving any colour, and about an hour or so after it fades, my lips start to feel dry again so I have to reapply.

Why I like?:

  • Very reasonably priced
  • Keeps lip soft and moisturized
  • Not at all sticky or waxy
  • Gives a soft pink tint to the lips
  • Does not feel heavy on the lips
  • Pleasant fragrance
  • Tastes good too!

Why I don’t like?:

  • Colour payoff could have been better
  • Needs to be reapplied to keep the lips hydrated
  • Fades without leaving any tint whatsoever

Rating: 4.5/5

Final word:ย

As far as lip balms go this is quite reasonably priced and it delivers in terms of hydration. Plus it is tinted and smells incredible! Although I have branched out in the world of lip balms and I now own about 10 different ones, for me this lip balm is irreplaceable ๐Ÿ™‚

Will I repurchase?:

I think this is around my 30th strawberry lip balm from this range! I buy these like 2-4 at a time because Avon has discounts often and so I stock up on these lip balms every few months. There are two brand new ones lying in my drawer as I write this!

Do I recommend?:

If you’re like me and NOTHING works on your lips, then yes I would suggest that you try this out ๐Ÿ™‚ for others, just have fun with the different variants, there is nothing bad about these lip balms โ€“ they are definitely worth a try.

NYX Color Lip Balm Grazie – Pink or Red Toned? {Beauty Query}

Adi asks..

Hi Lancy ๐Ÿ™‚

I noticed you’ve reviewed the NYX Color Lip Balm in Grazie and I was wondering if you could give me an idea as to what the exact colour is like? I have seen the swatches in the review but I still wanted to ask because I already have picked up Obrigado from this range and I don’t want to the two shades to be very similar!

Obrigado is a deep red with pretty much no pink in it. I have attached the swatch so can you tell me if Grazie is even a little bit similar to this? I guess Grazie has a bit of pink in it right? Is it a bit like Berry Crush from Baby Lips?

Would really appreciate any help on this ๐Ÿ™‚ :*

Hey Adi! NYX Grazie is of course a pink toned lip balm but the pink is not a ‘hot pink’. It is a beautiful wearable melon pink with rosy red undertones to it. The brand describes it as a red toned pink but I feel there is more pink in it ๐Ÿ™‚ Sometimes, it really showed on my lips more like a reddish pink shade but when I swatched it now, it looks more or less similar to Maybelline berry crush, but with a water melony tint! The color that shows up depends on your skin color and undertones. I remember it showing up on my lips more redder (than pink) some days.
But I am sure you will love the shade Grazie! It moisturizes lips so well and leaves behind a lovely tint. I personally liked this one more than berry crush in terms or tint and fragrance. I don’t own Obrigado; but while checking the swatches online, I find it to be more on the red side – no pink tint as you said. Grazie and Obrigado won’t be much similar I guess. Give a try! ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope you will love Grazie! If you are still confused, go for another shade like Merci. It is more pinker than Grazie! What say?
