DIY Early Morning Tea Scrub for Glowing Skin

So, how do you begin your day?! I believe with a tea or coffee. My day begins with a hot cup of tea along with the local newspaper.

Before I proceed into the actual scene of the discussion, I want to summarize the making of the tea.

  • You will need a glass of milk, one spoon tea powder and one spoon sugar.
  • In a wide mouthed vessel add all the 3 items and boil over low flame for about 4-5 minutes.
  • Pour the boiled contents on a sieve, and your morning tea is ready to be sipped.

(Sorry, it sounds as though you are reading a cooking blog) 😛

The residue collected in the strainer is likely to be thrown into the dustbin. But I suggest hold on to it. The tea residue makes an excellent skin exfoliator. It is the perfect type of mild scrub for the skin. Since this residue includes milk and sugar too, the skin gets the much needed moisturizing too. Massaging face and neck with the tea residue helps in blood circulation and brings the glow to your face right in the beginning of the day.

I never skip scrubbing my face with this tea residue, at least in winter. Winter makes the skin to look dead and deprived of food. So, tea residue scrubbing is a small solution to help my skin handle the dry winter. I scrub for about 3 to 4 minutes; then leave the residue on the skin for about 10 minutes and then rinse off. I do this after I have gulped my tea. 🙂

Source of inspiration to use the tea residue:

I had observed my mother dropping the tea residue to all the flower plant pots when the plants begin to look sick. And one fine day it just struck in my mind; these flowering plants get so much of life from the tea residue, wonder why can’t I borrow some help from the same tea residue. And thus the tea residue scrub came into existence in my routine.

Few Skin Benefits of Tea:

  • Tea is rich in antioxidants and thus it maintains the skin youth, if applied topically.
  • Recent researches have found that tea contains anti aging ingredients
  • The alpha hydroxy acids present in the tea loosens the skin and encourages dead skin removal
  • Applying tea decoction to the skin makes it look more fresher, healthier and radiant.

Can You Use Body Lotion On Your Face?

  • Can You Use Body Lotion On Your Face?
  • Body Lotion On Face – Would It Cause Any Side Effects?
  • Why Don’t We Use Body Lotions on Face?
  • Extra Dry Facial Skin – Would Body Lotions Help?

We are frequently receiving these kinda query from our readers and the answer is simply NO! We are now going to discuss why one shouldn’t use their body lotion on face and what ill effects it would cause. So if you have any idea of using your body moisturizer to moisturize your facial skin, then kill it. It is not that every body lotion would react bad on your facial skin; some might work well in fluke too but why should risk? Read below and know more on this.

Difference Between Facial Skin and Body Skin

Cell Turnover Rate of Skin:
Skin dryness and less environmental exposure (When compared to facial skin) causes slow skin turnover rate in body skin. Due to this, the natural exfoliation process slows down in body skin and thus it stays rougher and scalier than your facial skin. On the other hand, due to the sebaceous glands and excess sun exposure, the natural exfoliation process takes place faster and more frequently in your face skin when compared to the body skin. This makes your facial skin naturally more sensitive than your body skin.

Skin Thickness:
Our facial skin is usually 0.20mm thick whereas the body skin is 0.60mm thick. From this, obviously we can say that our facial skin is more sensitive when compared to our body skin.

Is It Okay to Use Body Lotion on Facial Skin?

As already said, the answer is No. Because of the differences in skin nature and thickness, usage of body lotion on more thin and more delicate facial skin is not that advisable. Body skin is usually drier than the facial skin and thus body lotions are specially formulated with heavy moisturizing ingredients that would lead to clogging of pores on the facial skin.

Is Body Lotion on Face Okay In case of Extremely Dry Skin?

Even though your body lotion is light in texture and your skin is extra dry, you shouldn’t use it on your facial skin as some of the ingredients present in it might be allergic to your face. Not at first, you may also face facial breakouts and such with regular body lotion usage on face.
Have you ever noticed something on your body lotion? Most of the body lotions are more scented and coloured when compared to the light facial lotions and moisturizers. Don’t you think that those artificial fragrances and colours would affect your super delicate and sensitive facial skin?
So it is better to avoid body moisturizers on your face anytime. Whatever skin type yours may be and however gentle those body lotions may be, do NOT use it on your facial skin without consulting with your dermatologist (There is very less chance that any dermatologist would recommend a body moisturizer for face)

Side Effects of Using Body Moisturizers on Face

So, Summing up the all the above factors, here is the list of facial skin problems you might experience if you use your body moisturizer on your face, instantly or may be with regular usage.

  • Acne breakouts
  • Clogging of pores
  • Redness
  • Itchy skin
  • Excess oil secretion
  • Greasy skin
  • Other allergies

Facial Moisturizer On Body – Is that Okay?

This is completely alright and this wouldn’t surely give you any side effect because of the gentleness of the facial lotions. Hence, in case you run out of your regular body lotion, you can pour some facial lotion on your palm and smooth it over you body skin to provide it required moisturization. You can do this without any fear however you may need to reapply the facial lotion in short intervals to prevent dryness on your body skin!

P.S: For some, your body lotions may perfectly suit as your facial moisturizer but before continuing this, consult with your dermatologist once to ensure that it wouldn’t cause any side effects or skin allergies in future.

The Easiest Way To Get Tighter Skin

When we talk about tight skin, we’re referring to that smooth, elastic and supple skin that we all had in our youth – the kind that you had when you were a kid, or even in your early twenties. Unfortunately, with every passing year, our skin gets looser and looser, allowing wrinkles and sagging to appear much to our dismay. It’s bound to happen to everyone, since the breakdown of collagen and elastin, compounded with the damaging effects of the sun and unhealthy lifestyle habits, make our skin naturally weaker. In response to our disdain for saggy, wrinkled skin, the beauty industry has created a plethora of solutions, but many simply don’t work.

So what’s the easiest way to get tighter skin?

Well, the most effective method is a combination of prevention and maintenance combined with a treatment like BOTOX or laser skin tightening (both of which actually work!).

Prevention and Maintenance

These involve the following:

1. Protecting your skin from prolonged sun exposure, since UV rays have been scientifically linked to the breakdown of collagen and elastin in our skin. Tanning is an unhealthy habit that accelerates the aging process, so make sure you cover up with a good sunscreen and stay out of the sun when it’s strongest.

2. Eating plenty of fresh vegetables, fruit and omega 3 rich foods, such as nuts and fatty fish. These are loaded with antioxidants to help fight against damaging free radicals that contribute to lax skin, as well strengthen and  moisturize the skin from within.

3. Follow a healthy lifestyle that involves a good exercise regimen, enough sleep and no smoking.

Laser Skin Tightening and BOTOX Are Effective Treatments

There are few things available on the market today that help with loose skin, and the safest and most effective can be found at a medical clinic. No, we’re not talking about surgery; rather, a treatment like laser skin tightening helps smooth away wrinkles and lax skin with intense light energy, which remodels the skin. Great results can be achieved
in a matter of months. Clinically proven to achieve dramatic results, BOTOX  is another treatment that erases wrinkles through an injection procedure, with results appearing in about a week and lasting for a few months. These treatments achieve results faster than other options in skin tightening.

If you already have loose skin, prevention and maintenance helps keep the problem from getting worse. Unfortunately, to address your current concerns, you’ll need to turn to medical treatments.
