Hi, I am Lanceek Cv. You can call me Lancy. šI found MABH as a teenager in 2011 to write about about beauty, haircare, and anything else I found curious about as a little girl. Now in 2026, the blog has grown with me. I'd love to share everything I find beauty in - my DIY projects, home decor, product reviews, food I cook, my random thoughts and hobbies. (hosting & antiquing lately).Write an email or drop a comment. I'd love for you to not be a stranger anymore. š
Today, I am going to throw some light on Garnier Skin Naturals Pure Active Neem Face Wash. I recently bought it, used once and I am planning not to use it ever again. Read on to know why..
Price:Ā
Rs.49 for 50g (Thank God I bought the smaller version)
How to Use?:
Take an adequate amount of this face wash and apply it on your face.
Gently massage and create lather.
Rinse well.
My Take:
Packaging and Consistency: This face wash comes in a typical Garnier plastic tube with a screw cap. The consistency of this face wash is quite runny with a green gel like texture.
Before you start reading this section, let me tell you something about my skin type. I have oily (read very oily) skin which is pimple prone and is extremely sensitive. If something does not suit me, it immediately shows up on my face as pimples. 2 days before planning to try this product on my face, I ate healthy stuff namely apples, green veggies and drank lots of water to make sure that I can review this product accurately. My skin was completely fine and my face was glowing. I used this face wash at night and went to bed. Next day, I woke up and saw three BIG pimples on my face – 2 on both eyebrows and one on the cheek. I felt angry and I have thus found that it will not suit sensitive skin.
However, my daughter and hubby like it a lot. My hubby has oily skin too (same pinch to me lol) which tends to attract a lot of dirt. He says that it worked fabulously for him and it makes his face super clean and removes all oil and dirt. My hubby does not have sensitive skin.
PROS:
Packaging
Color and gel-like texture of the product, which is appealing to the eyes
Makes the skin squeaky clean
Removes all oil and dirt
Fragrance is nice
Contains Salicylic acid and Neem
Available in different sizes
A very small amount is needed for that perfect lather
CONS:
Breaks me out
A bit difficult to wash it off
SLS
Final Verdict:Ā
If you do not have sensitive skin like me, then it may suit you. I think it was my fault that I tried it because it has been mentioned nowhere on the pack that it will suit very sensitive skin. However, it suited my hubby perfectly.
MABH Rating: 3/5 (-2 for breaking me out)
P.S: Have you tried this face wash? I am just curious to know if any Garnier products have ever suited you! Please do let me know in the comments below.. I do not know why every Garnier product I have tried breaks me out! SO strange š
Today I am going to review my mom’sĀ most favoriteĀ vicco turmeric cream. (There is also a version without sandalwood oil. i.e Vicco Turmeric WSO cream.
I was introduced to this turmeric skin cream by my mom when I was studying in 3rd grade. I used to bug her to get me some creams or lipsticks or whatever which comes under a beauty tag. But wait.. I was not allowed to use this cream on daily basis over my face as my mom felt that my skin was not matured enough. Whenever I happened to get any wound or burn, my mom’s hand reaches for this cream and I even used to think that it was just a medicine or some ointment long ago.
Only after few years, after I grown up into a teenage girl, I got to know this is actually a skin cream with medicinal properties! From that day, I am using this Vicco product till now regularly and here comes my receive on it.
Price:
Rs.48 for 15g
Storage Instruction:
Protect from direct sunlight.
Key Ingredients:
Extracts of turmeric and sandalwood oil.
My Experience:
This skin cream comes in a not-so-good looking packaging. It comes in a very simple tube; like one in which those ointments come but that is not an issue for me. It has a not-so-tight screw cap so you surely should be careful while traveling with this product (It made my handbag messy twice) Hence I always keep in mind to tight the screw cap well before carrying it) For the price, I have no big complaints with the packaging part.
This cream is light yellowish in color with a thick texture. I found the fragrance natural, but a bit strong. It somewhat smells like as if you have mixed talc and turmeric together and made it a paste. Though I have a sensitive nose, I do not have much problem with the fragrance part as it fades quickly. If you are a real lover of turmeric, you will love the fragrance of this product.
Before talking about the effects of this cream, let me explain its type of finish on the skin. This cream, though being thick doesn’t feel heavy on my facial skin. I have that medium-light feel soon after applying this cream over my skin. It settles into a soft matte finish and gives that natural glow instantly after usage.
Being a summer oily skinned person, I did not find this cream hard to blend on my skin however I should quickly massage my skin after applying this cream in order to get it absorbed well. All I get is a brightened, white caste free, matte skin! I dab some loose powder or compact over it and I am all set to go. (Remember that it doesn’t contain SPF so you must use your sunscreen separately if you are stepping out in the sun)
With regular usage, I have noticed that it made my skin tone even, lightened acne scars fast and made my skin supple to touch. It has also helped me keep my rare acne breakouts in check. It does not help with lightening skin much but of course it has improved my skin texture very well. Oily skinned girls (or even guys?) will love this cream very much.
Now comes the bad part! Though this cream brightens skin, it is NOT suitable for those who have dry skin! š My skin tends to change normal-oily during winters but still then I found this cream turning my facial skin stretchy in winters. So I make sure to use it with a moisturizer in winter. And one more thing.. My sister has extremely oily skin and she found this cream not impressive too. After 2 hours of application, this one make her T zone oily so she stopped using it. For me, it helps my face stay matte for a very long time. (Wondering how!)
Overall, I must say that it is a tricky cream; for some it works wonderfully and for the other, it fails to work. Climatic conditions matter too. From my guess, I say that this cream will suit you best if you have oily or normal skin. Give it a try if you have normal skin too, but don’t forget to dab on some moisturizer before applying it. If you have extremely dry skin, then forget about this cream please!
PROS:
Affordable price tag
Easily available
No white caste
Gives a matte finish
Doesn’t make skin oily
With regular use, lightens scars
Makes skin tone even
Keeps acne in control
Contains turmeric and sandalwood
Brightens skin instantly
Improves skin tone with regular usage
Can be used as a good natural day cream
No side effects
Cures cuts, burns and wounds
Smell may be a plus for many turmeric lovers
CONS:
Strictly a No-No product for dry skin types
Sensitive noses.. you might find the smell strong and talc-sh!
You cannot use it if you are allergic to turmeric
Rating: 4/5
Do I Recommend?:
Yes of course! To all oily skinned girls and also the normal skinned people. Get it for sure only if you do not have an extremely dry skin type. This cream might still stretch your skin out even if you have normal-oily skin and in that case, use a moisturizer along with it. Using a moisturer along with it makes the cream easily blend-able too.
I cannot say no to this wonderful turmeric product! If your skin loves it and accepts it without any trouble, it does wonders to lighten scars and make your skin tone even with regular usage.
Friday is here and I guess you are waiting for a relaxing weekend. Are you reading for some Sunday pampering? Why not make a shampoo? Making your own shampoo at home is a simple and fun task to do at weekends. It saves money and of course your precious hair from harmful chemicals and preservatives present in your store bought shampoos.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Homemade shampoos might not be lathering that well or smelling better but they cleanse hair well and add lustrous shine to it in a very natural way. Now we are going to check an interesting shampoo recipe with hibiscus flowers, leaves and natural green gram powder. This recipe is again from my Amma (mom) š
This shampoo cools down the scalp, clears out oil and dirt, controls dandruff and naturally conditions hair. Check the instructions below and make your own hibiscus shampoo in minutes! Let your hair shine naturally forever.
Things you will need:
A small bowl
1 cup of distilled water
10-12 hibiscus leaves
2 fresh hibiscus flowers
3 teaspoons of green gram powder
Few drops of jojoba oil
How to Make?
1. Take a small clean bowl and fill it up with one cup of distilled water.
2. Cleanse you hands and crush the hibiscus leaves and flowers well. Drop the crushed mixture to the bowl of distilled water.
3. Bring this mixture to a boil in simmer stove until the consistency is moderately thick. It would form a serum like consistency.
4. Now at this stage, switch off the stove and take the bowl off. Strain the flower and leaf extract and add the green gram powder to it. Blend well until it forms a smooth creamy paste.
5. Finally, add the jojoba oil to this paste and blend once again well. Your homemade hibiscus shampoo is ready to use now. If you don’t have jojoba oil, you can also use few drops of sweet almond oil or olive oil.
How to Use?:
1. After rinsing your hair with plain water or taking a shower, apply this creamy shampoo over your hair and scalp. Make sure to cover every single strand
2. Gently massage hair and scalp with finger tips for 3-5 minutes.
3. Leave on the shampoo on hair for 5 more minutes after massaging and rinse with fresh cold water.
4. After shampooing, condition hair if necessary and blow dry hair.
5. Soft, shiny and black hair is all yours now!
Ingredient Benefits:
Green Gram:
The green gram powder cleanses out the scalp well to get rid of excess dirt and oiliness. You can either buy green gram powder from shops or prepare your own by grinding dried green gram dhal at home.
Hibiscus:
Hibiscus is a natural cooling agent and it also works well to add that elegant shine to your hair! Hibiscus leaves and flowers are easily available. So why not to use them in your hair care regime?
Jojoba Oil:
This oil is used in this recipe to maintain the hair’s natural moisture balance. Jojoba oil is also proven to strengthen the hair strands naturally. If you have a really oily scalp, skip adding the oil.
