Anything that says home made takes so much of attention from me. That is why I always come here on MABH again and again with one or the other kitchen items. This time it is black grapes; it’s the grape season here now. And, this is another post I am making it sound partially like a cooking post. So sorry; but I have to mention the procedure of making the grape juice here.

Prepare the Grape Juice First:

Half or one kg of black grapes, sugar and water.

How to Prepare?:

  • After cleaning the grapes well; in a wide vessel boil all of the black grapes with enough water. Water quantity should be little above the level of the grapes in the vessel.
  • Boil for about 15 minutes or until you find the grape pulp has been loosened.
  • After it cools, pour all the contents on a strainer and collect the juice in a different vessel. The grape peel, pulp and seed will be collected in the strainer.
  • Add sugar to the collected juice and refrigerate for further cooling. There; black grape juice is ready

Now, the contents in the strainer are of no use in the juice drink. But it is the key ingredient for our body polisher. The seed can be separated out easily. The pulp forms the base of today’s body polisher.

Main ingredients:

One fist full grape pulp, dried and crushed grape seeds and one spoon honey

How to Make?:

  • Wash the seeds in water and dry it under sunlight. (Just 4-5 hours of exposing to sunlight is sufficient for drying.)
  • Crush the seeds to form a scrub like granules and store it in an air tight box.
  • Take a fist full of the pulp in a separate container and mix it with one spoon honey.

Done. Grape pulp and honey forms the body massage cream; grape seeds powder forms the body scrub particles. Together everything forms a home made body polisher.

How to Use?:

I use this body polisher after bath. Firstly, massage for about 3-4 minutes with the mixture of grape pulp and honey. And then for another 2 minutes I use the grape seed powder for scrubbing of the skin. Then wash off everything with water. No soap or body-wash after using this natural polisher.

This way I do not need any moisturizer or body lotions after bath.

There is one thing I feel sad about the grape pulp. It cannot be stored for long. It can be refrigerated and saved for another 2 days or so. It cannot be stored for long months. But; the dry seeds can be stored for as long as you want. I am planning to use it in my facial routine too.

I hope this was interesting. Enjoy every body the season of grapes as of now! I am definitely enjoying. 🙂 So, do you use Grapes in your skincare routine? If yes, share your recipes below!

Home Made Coconut Foot Scrub

My day is incomplete without using at least 2 spoons full of coconut in my daily cooking. Living in the coastal region of India has made me a great devotee of coconut. No no!! I am not showing you any thing that I am cooking. The topic of presentation today is using coconut in my beauty routine, especially during winter.

Home Made Coconut Foot Scrub

My place here does not have that harsh winter every body is talking about. But, yet there is dryness in the weather. My entire skin is become scaly. My feet are no exception. I got so many cuts and pointy flakes on my heels. It badly needed too much of care. And this where I turned towards coconut for some help.

Ingredients:

All you will need is 3-4 spoons full of grated coconut. 🙂

How to Use Coconut as a Foot Scrub:

  • I always have coconuts at my home ready for bring used. Using of coconut scrub has to be compulsorily done in the bath room. Else, you will end up cleaning the floor all time.
  • First clean the feet with mild soap. I have started using baby bath products considering they are mild in nature. After cleaning, take some amount of grated coconut and rub across the entire foot in possible angles; some hard strokes and some soft strokes. Do not bother of your skin getting hurt. These grated coconut pieces are so soft that they form a very smooth scrubbing structure.
  • Do the rubbing on the heel, between the toes, on the nails, edges between nails and the skin, ankle, above and under the feet. Coconut pieces forma a very good massager cum scrubber, a two in one product.
  • The skin will now definitely look shiny and oily. I do not use any soap to remove the creamy residue of the coconut. I only use hot water to wash it off. Hot water will remove the excess oiliness from the skin. After patting my feet dry, I slip into a pair of slippers so that I do not leave greasy foot marks on the floor.  If at all some amount of greasiness is left behind, it will be absorbed by the skin in about an hour or so. So, no worries.

I follow this twice a day. It hardly takes about 5-6 minutes.

  • Once in the morning while bath.
  • Again at night before sleeping.

When not to use?:

Do not do the coconut scrubbing for your feet if you have plans of going out for the day. Feet will attract lots of dust since the coconut scrub is very creamy. Only do it at night.

DIY Early Morning Tea Scrub for Glowing Skin

So, how do you begin your day?! I believe with a tea or coffee. My day begins with a hot cup of tea along with the local newspaper.

Before I proceed into the actual scene of the discussion, I want to summarize the making of the tea.

  • You will need a glass of milk, one spoon tea powder and one spoon sugar.
  • In a wide mouthed vessel add all the 3 items and boil over low flame for about 4-5 minutes.
  • Pour the boiled contents on a sieve, and your morning tea is ready to be sipped.

(Sorry, it sounds as though you are reading a cooking blog) 😛

The residue collected in the strainer is likely to be thrown into the dustbin. But I suggest hold on to it. The tea residue makes an excellent skin exfoliator. It is the perfect type of mild scrub for the skin. Since this residue includes milk and sugar too, the skin gets the much needed moisturizing too. Massaging face and neck with the tea residue helps in blood circulation and brings the glow to your face right in the beginning of the day.

I never skip scrubbing my face with this tea residue, at least in winter. Winter makes the skin to look dead and deprived of food. So, tea residue scrubbing is a small solution to help my skin handle the dry winter. I scrub for about 3 to 4 minutes; then leave the residue on the skin for about 10 minutes and then rinse off. I do this after I have gulped my tea. 🙂

Source of inspiration to use the tea residue:

I had observed my mother dropping the tea residue to all the flower plant pots when the plants begin to look sick. And one fine day it just struck in my mind; these flowering plants get so much of life from the tea residue, wonder why can’t I borrow some help from the same tea residue. And thus the tea residue scrub came into existence in my routine.

Few Skin Benefits of Tea:

  • Tea is rich in antioxidants and thus it maintains the skin youth, if applied topically.
  • Recent researches have found that tea contains anti aging ingredients
  • The alpha hydroxy acids present in the tea loosens the skin and encourages dead skin removal
  • Applying tea decoction to the skin makes it look more fresher, healthier and radiant.
