My Top 5 Nail Polishes for Monsoon 2013

by Adi

Hello lovely ladies! 🙂
The rains are here (well most places!) and one mantra for monsoon that doesn’t change is bright, bright and brighter! Colour blocked outfits, bright sandals and flip flops, funky accessories and of course, fun nail polishes! Bright colours on nails are like the trademark of monsoon fashion. Think bright corals, blues, greens and tangerines!

So here are a few lovely nail polishes (Monsoon 2013 Affordable Nail Polishes) that’ll really make your nails stand out in the dreary monsoon! Plus they’re pocket-friendly! Enjoy the pics 😉

My Top 5 Nail Polishes Available in India for Monsoon 2013:

1. Streetwear Color Rich Nail Enamel Olive Drab No. 36:

Olive Drab from the Streetwear Color Rich Nail Enamel range is a slightly muted yellow pastel nail polish that’ll make your nails the center of attention and the fact that it’s just for 50 bucks is an added reason for you to go get this lovely shade!

2. Lakme Color Crush Nail Polish in the Shade No. 03

This is a lovely minty green shade with a lot of shimmer. It’s a very wearable pastel shade of green. Another one of my favorites for the monsoon! Lakme Color Crush nail polishes are a bit pricey at Rs 150 but the formula and shade selection is worth it. (Sorry for the short nails! I took this photo a while back!)

3. Avon Nailwear Pro+ Nail Enamel Coral Beat:

This nail polish from Avon has also been reviewed by me on MABH (Read here) and it’s another one of my favorites for summer and monsoon. It gives a lovely splash of neon orange colour to my nails and is really perfect for making a statement with your nails! This is priced at Rs 159, but it’s often on discount.

4. Streetwear Color Rich Nail Enamel Purple Magic No. 01:

Another lovely shade from the Streetwear Color Rich range is Purple Magic, a gorgeous plum colour that looks very vibrant and pretty on the nails! It’s a dark colour that’s still not too goth or dull. This is also for Rs 50.

5. Avon Simply Pretty Nail Enamel Mango Mania:

Mango Mania is a rusty orange with hints of red that will look great for monsoons! It’s not as loud or as orangey as Coral Beat but definitely is as pretty. I’ll be reviewing this lovely nail polish soon 🙂 Price: Rs 85

So those were my top 5 nail polishes for the monsoons! If you ask me, the rainy season is time to fight the grey clouds with bright manicures 😉 If you don’t have access to or you don’t like the brands mentioned above, you can always look for similar shades in other brands. I just wanted to suggest some fun colours that are in tune with the season.

I hope you all liked this article! Any shade that you think should have been here but is not? 🙂

Let me know which one you liked best out of these 5 nail polishes!

Also, what’s your favourite monsoon nail polish? 🙂

Lotus Herbals Seduction Botanical Tinted Lip Gloss Berry Blush Review

by Adi

Hello everyone!
I’ll be reviewing now, one of the best lip glosses I’ve used till date – Lotus Herbals Seduction Botanical Tinted Lip Gloss in the shade ‘Berry Blush’. I’m a bit late on the bandwagon with this one, but it’s such a gorgeous lip gloss that I really wanted to share my love for it with you all. So here we go 🙂

Price:

Rs 245 for 5 ml

My Take on Lotus Herbals Seduction Botanical Tinted Lip Gloss Berry Blush:

The gloss comes in a transparent plastic tube with a golden plastic cap. The cap screws on and doesn’t allow any leakages so it’s pretty efficient that way.

Berry Blush is a berry-toned pink. The colour will look flattering on pretty much all skin tones. I have a medium to fair skin tone (fair when all my tan is gone :P) and it makes my skin look healthy and glowing and my lips look fuller.

The gloss has extremely fine silver shimmer. The shimmer is not very marked or obvious, but it’s there. However, it barely shows up on the lips, as you can see from the photos. (All images are without flash so that you can see the actual colour)

The gloss has a standard doe foot applicator. The texture of the gloss is smooth and it spreads easily and evenly on application.

The finish of the gloss is not fully opaque on my lips since, like I said, they are quite pigmented (I need to stop drinking so much coffee!) however on girls with lighter lips, the gloss would give better coverage and the colour would show better. The gloss in itself is quite pigmented and a single swipe is enough to cover my lips with enough colour.

It does not feel heavy or sticky on my lips. The fragrance is pleasant. Okay you have to bear with me here. I’m terrible at describing fragrances. But the fragrance is a bit out of place. I mean, maybe you’d associate it with a powder or something instead. But it’s very mild and not bothersome at all. The staying power is quite good – about 3-4 hours. It will not survive meals though.

PROS of Lotus Herbals Seduction Botanical Tinted Lip Gloss Berry Blush:

  • Reasonably priced
  • Decent colour payoff even on pigmented lips
  • Universally flattering shade
  • Definitely less sticky than other glosses that I’ve tried such as the basic Lakme, Avon and Vaseline ones
  • The shine is not over the top at all, it’s just right (girls who like their glosses to have a LOT of shine may be a tad disappointed with this).
  • Moisturizing (though not to the extent that you can substitute it for a lip balm)
  • Easy to apply
  • Does not feel heavy or goopy on the lips

CONS of Lotus Herbals Seduction Botanical Tinted Lip Gloss Berry Blush:

  • Won’t show up fully on very pigmented lips
  • Staying power could have been better

MABH Rating: 4.75/5

Final word: This lip gloss is pigmented, moisturizing and without doubt a value for money. 5 ml will last you a long time and it can worn in the day time or night time. It provides good coverage without being over the top, sticky or too shimmery. The lip swatch hasn’t done it justice, though I tried like crazy. All in all, it’s a must-have product!

Have you tried Lotus Herbals Lip Glosses? How are they?

Avon Nailwear Pro+ Nail Enamel Romance Review, Swatches and NOTD

Hello ladies!

I’m back with another nail polish post. You know me; I can never own too many nail polishes! This is another lovely shade from the Avon Nailwear Pro+ Nail Enamel Range. They have three categories of nail polish- Crème, Shimmer and Sequins. I’ve already reviewed Coral Beat from their Crème range. The shade in the spotlight today called Romance is from the ‘Shimmer’ collection. So let us get into the review!

Price:

Rs 159 for 8 ml

My Take:

The packaging is same as the other Avon Nailwear pro+ nail polishes –  a rectangular bottle with a black cap. The shades in the shimmer collection are supposed to have shimmer in them, you would think. I don’t know about the others, but Romance definitely does not. Okay, wait. If you take a magnifying glass, maybe you can spot VERY fine shimmer but that’s how fine it is. I’d call the finish more metallic than shimmery!

Coming to the shade – when you think ‘romance’, if you think of pinkish, blushing float-y girly tones then this polish includes all of those! The shade is so romantic! I really can’t use any one colour to describe this nail polish because it changes colour as the light hits it. I think it is essentially a very light shade of pink. It shines a slightly deeper pink. It has slight lavender tones as well. It’s one of those shades that instantly make your hands look fairer.

The photos show two thick coats of the nail polish. It is maybe 99% opaque so I left it at that. I’d recommend three thin coats for full opacity. Also, when you apply this on your nails, it doesn’t shine as much as other nail polishes. You can see in the photos, I’ve clicked them right after applying the second coat: the finish is not very lustrous. In fact it has a slightly glazed finish. But I think that’s what makes it different. It’s muted and yet so soft and elegant!

Another thing I love about the Nailwear Pro+ range is that the nail polish actually stays on my nails for almost a week without chipping off. I hate having to change or touch up my nail polish every three days!

PROS:

  • Lovely colour
  • Smooth application
  • Colour stays true
  • Reasonable price
  • Does not chip for 5-7 days

CONS:

  • None!

Rating: 5/5

Final Word:

If you’re sick of blues, greens, purples and tangerines then Romance is the perfect departure from all those in-your-face shades. It’s sophisticated, feminine and so pretty on the nails! I think this will look lovely on all skin tones. Highly recommended 🙂
